Office Policies

Welcome to Our Office

We are so pleased that you have selected our office for your dental care. We are dedicated to providing the highest quality of dental care in the most gentle, efficient and enthusiastic manner possible. Our primary goal is to help your children learn how to keep their teeth healthy and beautiful for life. We strive to make the dental visit a pleasant and rewarding experience.

Our emphasis is on prevention. Primary teeth are extremely important for the digestion of food, maintenance of space for the permanent teeth and stimulating proper growth of the head and face. They are also important in the development of speech habits and serve a cosmetic function in your child's appearance. Every effort will be made to preserve the integrity of your child's dentition. We believe it is our responsibility to establish the technical and emotional foundation for a lifetime of excellent dental health.

We Look Forward to Meeting You

We have included a Registration and History form to be completed prior to your child's appointment. Please be as thorough as possible in completing this form and bring it with you on your first visit. We find that we can provide better and safer care when we are fully informed of your child's health status. Be sure to have all insurance information completed also. This will minimize the amount of time you will spend completing forms in our office.

Your Child's First Visit

Our introductory visit generally includes a thorough oral examination, cleaning, and topical fluoride treatment. If necessary, dental x-rays may be requested. An effective program of age appropriate home care, including brushing, flossing, and fluoride therapy will be discussed. Controlled intake of dietary sweets and snacking will be recommended. If treatment is indicated we will develop a written treatment plan and go over it with you in detail, explaining our findings and recommendations..

Payment for Services

Payment for your initial visit is expected at the time of the appointment. Payment may be made by cash, check, or credit card. If you have dental insurance, please obtain your forms in advance, complete your portion and bring in forms (one for each child) and benefit booklet with you on your first visit. In case of shared custody, the parent who brings the child to the appointment is responsible for payment.

If additional treatment is needed we will present an estimate of charges for these additional services and our financial secretary will be happy to work out the financial arrangements with you. Most of all, your child's welfare is always of utmost importance to us.

Scope of Service

We provide educational, preventive, restorative, surgical and limited orthodontic services for infants, children, and teenagers. Our emphasis is on prevention and our range of services is comprehensive. We strongly believe in the use of sealants and the early intervention in treatment of orthodontic problems as a means of promoting optimal dental health. We are also able to provide additional services including hospital dentistry and the use of anti-anxiety agents.

In addition, we treat many children with developmental differences both in our office and in the hospital. Special appointments may be scheduled.

A Word About Your Child

We, like you, want to ensure the best possible dental care for your child. We believe that parents should play an active role in maintaining the dental health of their child. Therefore, we request that parents be present at the first dental visit. At times, and for certain procedures, we find that patients may do better if their parents remain in the reception area. These are usually rare occurrences but we want the best treatment outcomes for your child and hope that you will trust us in these situations.

Please Ask Questions

Our primary concern is to provide your child with the finest pediatric dental care possible. You can help us accomplish that goal by informing Dr. Rothman directly or our office staff at any time during the course of your child's treatment if you have any questions regarding any treatment service or fee. We recognize that some aspects of dentistry are quite technical and we want to make every effort to avoid a misunderstanding, correct a mistake, or preserve a friendship.

Starting Early is Very Important

We recommend a child's first visit to the pediatric dentist should occur at about one year of age. We can provide information about teeth and normal dental development, proper home care, proper fluoride regimen and counseling regarding diet, pacifier, and bottle habits. Cavities are an infectious disease and we want to provide you with the most possible scientific information and current strategies for prevention. Diet is a significant factor in cavity formation. Frequent snacking may lead to cavity formation as will high juice intake.

The child's first full visit for cleaning, fluoride treatment, and examination should occur approximately 1 1/2 to 2 years of age; generally when they have all twenty of their primary teeth.

We also believe that prevention of dental disease can only occur if parents and caregivers also maintain optimal oral health.

Our Office Philosophy

In summary, we believe that the manner in which we introduce our patients to dentistry will have a profound effect on their developing healthy life-long dental habits. We believe that high quality pediatric dental care must be characterized by careful use of x-rays, gentle understanding, but focused and guided behavior management techniques and emphasis on the prevention of dental disease and malocclusions. We believe in preserving tooth structure by small cavity preparations and avoiding the removal of permanent teeth in orthodontic treatment whenever possible. We believe in being able to help our patients when emergency needs exist, in taking a high level of responsibility for our work and in charging reasonable fees to diminish economic barriers to treatment. We look forward to a long and mutually satisfying relationship.

Emergency treatment takes top priority in our office. If at any time your child requires immediate attention, please call. We are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Please see First Aid for Dental Emergencies for more helpful emergency tips.
